Viewer Response Have you seen "Robot Stories"? Submit your own viewer response! "What an amazing closing night!" - SFIAAFF 2003What an amazing closing night! Your opening credits were unbelievably engaging. Honestly, that was the most creative, thrilling and engaging opening title sequence I've seen in many years. It's always great to see Tamlyn Tomita on the big screen, and Robot Baby did not disappoint - I loved her joyful/quasi-uncomfortable/I don't know what to think facial expressions as she and James Saito receive their "practice bot". And how wonderful to see a machine be the catalyst for personal transformation All of your stories were psychologically intriguing, to say the least. Both Robot Baby and Robot Fixer dealt with submerged traumas that recirculate in later life consciousness, completing circles of transformation. I mentioned during the Q&A that I very much appreciated your dancing with issues of bioethics, psychology (the son on life support, sustaining life in the 2nd and 4th episode, etc), and of course appropriate uses of technology, as well as opening the issues of how will we treat our own "creations"... Sab Shimono was powerful in the last segment - great close ups Lastly, I was very pleased to see that you could "write women"! All the characters were real, but so often with male writers/directors, women get short shrift or are cardboard cutouts. You are a very talented writer and filmmaker - and this is a fantastic feature debut. I wish you all the best, and I'll tell all my friends about it. This absolutely deserves wide release. The strength of the acting, directing, cinematography, writing, and overall production values puts it in the league of the best of indie films. Or even non-indie films, such as GATTACA, which dealt with technology and identity issues as well. Brilliant! Ravi Chandra |
